The Bakken Museum, The Show release call for community art submissions

Submissions to be displayed in the newly renovated lobby of The Bakken Museum

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Bakken Museum, in conjunction with The Show, is excited to release a call for community art submissions. Artists are invited to submit 2-D, mixed media, textiles, or written word pieces to be displayed in the museum’s recently renovated lobby. Artworks should reflect on the theme of “connection.” The deadline for submissions is March 13, and the selected pieces will be in display from April 1 through July 31. 

Submission Details: 

  • Theme: Connection – Relationship, attachment, link, circuit, and beyond. 

  • Submission Deadline: March 13, 2022 

  • Exhibition Open: April 1, 2022 – July 31, 2022 

  • Display location: The Bakken Museum, 3537 Zenith Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55416 

  • There is no application fee to apply. 

  • Artists must be located in Minnesota. 

  • Open to artists in all mediums in 2-d, mixed media, textiles, or written word. 

  • Each artist may submit 1 piece no larger than 20” X 24”. 

  • All work must be original. 

  • Works must be ready to hang with wire hangers (no saw-tooth hangers, please), and paper artwork must be framed.

  1. A picture of the piece 

  2. Artist name and contact information 

  3. Name of the piece, size, and price 

  4. Medium(s) used to create the piece 

The Bakken Museum and The Show believe the representation of diverse identities, backgrounds, and communities helps to increase visibility and improve our connection to one another. Artists from traditionally marginalized backgrounds are encouraged to submit works to the Connections Exhibition. 

Art Drop Off: The selected artworks must be received by The Bakken Museum by 5 p.m. on March 30. Drop off times include March 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or Mach 30 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Additional times may be available upon request. 

Art Pick Up: Artist is responsible for collecting their piece at the end of the exhibition period. Available pick up times include August 1 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and August 2 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
