Electrosleep Machine Prototype

Electrosleep-Machine-Prototype.jpg

While “electrical stimulation” probably makes most people think about shocks and jolts, this device actually uses electrical stimulation to help people fall asleep. The trick is this device sends very gentle pulses rather than discharges that cause shocks.

This particular device is the prototype for the first electrosleep machine made in the U.S., though these devices had been in use in other countries earlier. Some of these devices are FDA-approved, though they can only be used in medical facilities under professional supervision rather than in homes.

This kind of machine has found a niche in the world of medical treatment, most commonly used to help patients with psychiatric conditions fall asleep, especially where those conditions make falling asleep more difficult. These devices don’t treat these conditions, but they might help an individual sleep and therefore let their mind and body heal and recharge. The idea is to let bodies do the healing they’re built to do. After all, our bodies are capable of some pretty amazing things.
