The Bakken Museum, The Show Release call for kinetic art submissions

The Bakken Museum, in conjunction with The Show, is excited to release a call for community art submissions. Artists are invited to submit 2-D, mixed media, textiles, or written word pieces to be displayed in the museum’s lobby. Artworks should reflect on the theme of “Kinetic” The deadline for submissions is July 17, and the selected pieces will be on display from August 12 to November 30, 2022.

Submission Details:

  • Theme: “Kinetic” - “Active”, “Energetic”, “Motion”, or “Dynamic”, this theme can go in as many different directions as the artist can imagine

  • Submission Deadline: July 17, 2022

  • Artists notified: The week of July 24

  • Exhibition Open: August 12, 2022 – November 30, 2022

  • Display location: The Bakken Museum, 3537 Zenith Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55416

  • There is no application fee to apply

  • Artists must be located in Minnesota

  • Open to artists in all mediums in 2-d, mixed media, textiles, or written word

  • Sculptures will not be accepted due to space limitations

  • Each artist may submit 1 piece no larger than 20” X 20”

  • All work must be original

  • Works must be ready to hang with wire hangers (no saw-tooth hangers, please), and paper artwork must be framed.

  • Name of the piece, size, and price

  • Medium(s) used to create the piece

The Bakken Museum and The Show believe the representation of diverse identities, backgrounds, and communities helps to increase visibility and improve our connection to one another. Artists from traditionally marginalized backgrounds are encouraged to submit works to the Kinetic Exhibition.

Art Drop-Off: The Bakken Museum must receive the selected artworks by 5 p.m. on August 10. Drop-off times include August 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or August 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. Additional times may be available upon request.
