ECO-VENTION

Discover how easy it is to be green during The Bakken Museum's Earth Day extravaganza!  Join our friends from the community as we reduce, reuse and ride The Bakken Bicycle,  build a garden-to-go, make your hair stand on end and more.
Eco-vention activities are included with The Bakken Museum admission.  MELSA Museum Adventure Passes cannot be used for admission to Eco-vention or other special events.
 
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Save the date!  The Bakken Museum's yearly fundraiser is Thursday, May 17, 8 - 9 a.m.  Funds raised will benefit education programs to help children discover their inner scientist.

Museum Hours
Come see, hear and feel the natural electricity that powers the human heart.  Watch an
animated heart beat in time to your heartbeat, create songs using your heart's rhythm and more.

Enjoy Minnesota's spring weather as you explore three acres of outdoor bliss.  Find flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees used as medicine in the garden.  Read a book on a bench next to the Koi pond and fountain.  Visit the wetland, count the many birds and see Minnesota's State Flower, the Lady Slipper, in bloom.

Discover your inner scientist with friends and family during drop-in, hands-on activities every Saturday.  Activities change each month and may include building your latest idea at the
Ax-man inventors table, making a capacitor and searching the Museum for answers to a scavenger hunt.

For the price of regular admission, you can hear the stories behind our unique exhibits and have a hair-raising experience with a knowledgeable, entertaining tour guide.  Pre-registration required.  Call 612-926-3878 ext. 219.

Science Theater: Finding Frankenstein

Monday - Friday
Meet Mary Shelley, teenage author of Frankenstein and mother of science fiction.  Discover who she might be if she were alive today and how Frankenstein came to be during this 45 minute interactive, entertaining performance for groups of 20 or more.  Pre-registration required.  Call 612-926-3878 ext. 219.

New exhibit opens May 12
You're invited to meet the artists and enjoy The Florence Bakken Medicinal Garden during the opening reception for Botanical HeArt, Saturday, May 12, 1 - 3 p.m.

Botanical HeArt celebrates the 300th anniversary of Carl Linnaeus's birth with an exhibition of botanical paintings of plants used medicinally to treat heart ailments.  The paintings, created by artists from the Minnesota School of Botanical Art, will be exhibited May 12 through August 31.

Wizards Day

Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Calling all wizards!  Buy a copy of the final book in the Harry Potter series from Creative Kidstuff and create a glowing wand to wave over the pages.  Meet owls like Hedwig from the University of Minnesota Raptor Center.  Enjoy "Science is Fun!" with the 3M Visiting Wizards and "Professor Sepoc's Potion Class."  Explore The Williams Collection and get a close up look at real props from the Harry Potter movies, including original drawings of the Nimbus 2000, a student quill and a prototype of Hermione's wand.

Wizards Day activities are included with The Bakken Museum admission.  MELSA Museum Adventure Passes cannot be used for admission to Wizards Day or other special events.
