The first book detailing the therapeutic effects of ultrashort waves (3 m). During 1926-1927, Schliephake, a physician based in Jena, experimented on the effect of ultrashort waves on bodily fluids and on animals by placing the subject between condenser plates. In 1929 he himself became the first patient to be treated with ultrashort waves, for a boil on his nose.

A classic of neurology elucidating the mechanism of the interaction of nerve cells and their effect on behavior. Sherrington demonstrated that most reflexes are co-ordinated; that the nervous system functions as a whole, so that reflex action is not an isolated phenomenon; and that the true function of the nervous system is to integrate the organism, making it an individual whole, not just a collection of cells and organs. For his discoveries on the neurons he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1932.
