Text details discovery of method for preventing traumatic shock in surgery called "anoci-association". Crile made many other major contributions to surgical technique especially thyroid surgery. He devised methods for blood transfusions in 1905, popularized the use of blood pressure monitoring in surgery and introduced epinephrine and saline solutions for patients in shock. He called attention to the effects of emotion on the adrenal and thyroid glands and the mental state of the patient before surgery.
