The Bakken Museum is surrounded by beautiful landscaping, including four distinctive gardens.
- The Florence Bakken Medicinal Garden curves around the museum's West side. Inspired by medieval European "physic" gardens, it features medicinal plantings and a rock fountain with aquatic plants.
- The Green Energy Art Garden is a seasonal art and sculpture area on the museum's terrace. Off-season, explore our green roof and solar panels, and catch a great view of Lake Calhoun.
- The Dakota Native Plants Garden encompasses the wetlands area on the East side of the museum. It's common to spy deer and other wildlife grazing on the plants and trees.
- The Healthy Heart Organic Garden is a vegetable garden near the museum gates. It hosts the organic composting process that keeps all of our gardens green and growing.
