Reflexions préliminaires a l’occasion de la Piece intitulée,
Les Docteurs Modernes ~
Paris, 1784

Reflexions-first-page

A pamphlet written by Jean Jacques d’Eprémesnil, a fervent supporter of Mesmer, denouncing the play Les Docteurs Modernes. Copies of the pamphlet were tossed into the audience during an early performance of the play. When d’Eprémesnil failed to get the play suppressed by the police, the Parliament, or the King, he published another pamphlet declaring his faith in mesmerism and had it thrown into the audience at another performance of the play.
