Les Docteurs Modernes
Paris, 1785

Les Docteurs Modernes was a satirical play, first presented in Paris in November, 1784, at the Comédie Italienne. Mesmer and one of his most important associates, Charles d’Eslon, are ridiculed as charlatans who laugh as they dupe their followers. The play was wildly popular and provided fuel for gossip and counter-attacks.
