This picture of the title page of Mesmer's Aphorismes gives a notion of its diminutive size. The words following the title proper explain that these sayings were dictated to his pupils, that they contain his principles, theory, and means of application, and that they are presented in 344 statements in order to facilitate the practice of animal magnetism. Be that as it may, Mesmer was furious that Caullet de Veaumorel had published his ideas in this format, and denounced the work.
