Intro to Magnets workshop

magnetIntro to Magnets workshop is a 75 minute long science workshop for students in grades 1-2.  In it students will:

• Examine what a magnet is, and what materials can be magnetic.

• Discover and learn about magnetism from people of different backgrounds throughout history.

• Explore the push and pull forces of magnets as they attract and repel.

• Learn about naturally occurring magnets called lodestones, how they got that name, and what they have to do with Minnesota.

• Figure out how north and south poles of magnets attract and repel and how this applies to the Earth.

• Make and take home a home-made magnetic toy illustrating the principles of magnetism.
