Field Trips at The Bakken - Where Students Get Charged Up About Science
Batteries Workshop
at
The Bakken

The Batteries Workshop is 75 minutes long. In it students will:

• Explore the history of batteries, by becoming part of the famous 200-year-old debate between scientists Alessandro Volta and Luigi Galvani.

• Repeat historical experiments which led to the theories of animal electricity and chemical electricity.

• Discuss the different types and sizes of batteries and for what they are used.

• Engage in stories about how batteries have been invented and used from past to present.

• Make replicas of the first documented battery, the voltaic pile, and use it to produce sound and light.

• Take home their own kits containing materials to make and experiment with homemade batteries.
