Travel and Storage Case
England, late 18th century

Travel and Storage CaseElectrical apparatus was expensive in the 18th century, and often used by traveling demonstrators. They needed a sturdy case to protect their equipment from the perils of travel.

This case is associated with a cylinder generator of the late 18th century. For travel, the generator would be disassembled into many parts, and each part stowed in its assigned place in the box.

These cases were not mass-produced. Each was specifically fitted to the generator and equipment that it was intended for. Some cases had drawers and storage for miscellaneous objects, but this was uncommon: most stored what they were intended to store, and nothing else.
