Alternative and Unconventional Therapies

To land in this category, a therapy or theory had to be reasonably common in our collection, and reasonably disreputable among orthodox physicians at the time we created this list of classifications. Thus, it's a snapshot in time. Acupuncture has risen considerably in repute as of 2001, and drugstores have shelves of "homeopathic" remedies. The jury is still out on magnets for relief of pain, but the "better living" catalogs are filled with them. And "nutritional supplements" are argued on television. Life can be interesting, and many therapies reflect life. If we'd been compiling the list in 1955, pacemakers and open-heart surgery might be on it.
