Holtz-Toepler Electrostatic Generator

The differences between a Toepler machine, a Holtz machine, and a Toepler-Holtz machine are unclear even in books written when they were vital modern technology. We call this one a Holtz-Toepler machine because it was made by Holtz; but that's a convenience and not to be considered technically significant..

The machine on the index page for Influence Electrostatic Generators shows a large, physician's unit in an oak-and-glass cabinet. This machine is smaller, and would be found in a laboratory instead of a doctor's office; but the main reason for the picture is to show you what the machines are like when they're not in a cabinet and you can see them more clearly.
