Adjustable-Gap Director
French, late 19th century
This director includes a spark gap, adjustable by twisting the knob on the right end. Different contact electrodes can be put on the split metal rod at the left, or it can be used directly. A chain connecting with the electrostatic generator would fasten to the ring at the left middle. This put into one apparatus all the arrangements a physician would need to control and adjust the shocks given to a patient. This is about the same as the discharging electrometer of an earlier day, made somewhat more convenient. |
