Vacuum Pump

E
arly chemists attempted to apply electrical charges to isolated gases so they could better understand the "electrical fluid" that we now call electricity. The vacuum pump (shown on the right) was invented to help chemists study particular gases in isolation from air. The vacuum pump removed all of the gases, including air, from a sealed container. The container could then be refilled with the specific gas to be studied.
